Ryan Shoots First: Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (S1 Ep8) “Birthright”
Turns out there is more to the past this week on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. I thought after we wrapped up Shaw’s “fumbling the bag” moment, that we were done in the past timeline but turns out we still have some more ground to tread and it was pretty significant in the framing of Shaw’s current motivations.
Shaw is running his own game now trying to systematically close all the portals Papa Randa had identified and that for some reason has him on Monarch’s radar. Not entirely sure what or why they want to stop him. But anyway this week we see a bit more of his reasoning and his thought process around the Titans and Godzilla specifically. Of course, right on Shaw’s tail around the entire globe is the Randa kids. They have seriously logged an insane amount of airtime in what seems to have only been like a week for this show. Maybe even less I would need to go back and see but it can’t have been more than 5 days and they have to have spent like 2 whole days flying. But they are once again left to be the only ones to find out where to go next and are off on another adventure.
I will say the stakes seem to be escalating and the final 20 seconds of this episode escalate real quick. All of a sudden the quiet is broken wide open and if I didn’t know any better I would assume we’re heading into the penultimate episode with some really big questions to answer. It feels like these final two episodes will be like the 2 part premiere but I have not heard about them releasing the last 2 on the same day so we are probably going to have a big cliffhanger again next week. Either way the battle lines seem to be drawn now and Godzilla seems poised to have something to say about all these puny humans carefully laid plans.
