Ryan Shoots First: House of the Dragon (S2 Ep1) “A Son for a Son”
Its time!! After a long wait, Season 2 of House of the Dragon is here, and no war is as brutal as a war between family and no bloodier than a war between dragons! Greens or Blacks, pick a side.
It really felt great to hear that theme on a Sunday night and just enjoy top-tier tv. Nothing compares to the GoT-verse when it comes to production value, the sets, shots, wardrobe, music it’s all on point, and man how I’ve missed it. Of course, the big shock last season was the death of Prince Luce’s brutal death at the hands of Aemond and Vaegar. We pick up episode one in the aftermath with Rhaenyra grieving her son and detached deciding how to go forward, and while she takes a moment to step away Daemon of course is ready to burn it all to the ground.
This episode did a lot of setting up to light the spark that will get this war kick-started. Luc’s death is the first shot across the bow and how the blacks react will define this era in Westeros and uhh they certainly respond. Well, Aemond responds… in his own way. And as you may have guessed it will not help matters and now we’re all in the muck.
The tone of the show is so confident, it knows exactly what it is and that deliberate confidence can’t help but suck you in. In season one there was this kind of “walking on eggshells” feeling as they had to prove why this story should be told and how to recover the faith GoT lost with so many in the end. This season they are off and running and everyone is in midseason form. I cannot wait to see where it goes and the actions taken at the end will surely send shockwaves in the world of the show and the fan reaction online. Westeros Twitter Sunday is back baby!!
