Ryan Shoots First: House of the Dragon (S2 Ep7) “The Red Sowing”
Hey! It’s the penultimate episode of House of the Dragon Season 2 and some stuff finally happened! Yeah, Daemon is STILL roaming around his haunted castle but elsewhere in the realm stuff is happening. It’s not a huge leap from where we’ve been for the last two weeks but it’s something. Thrones kind of established the penultimate episode as being some of the biggest ever and this isn’t quite on that level but it has some pretty cool moments after the revelation last week of Adam being chosen by Seasmoke.
It was funny as I was watching the Olympics prior to the episode and I was thinking about how often when big events happened the shows on that network would tie in with themed programming. So what would an Olympic-like episode of House of the Dragon look like? A game of the realm with 2 weeks of feasting, fornicating, and games sounds right down their alley! But no time for fun and games we’re at war. This week Rhaenyra looks to capitalize on her plan to find other riders kinda working. She doubles down and to… mixed results. These were the stand-out scenes in the episode though as some really cool shots and getting to meet new dragons for the first time. I have mixed feelings on how this presents Rhaenyra, I know she is desperate but she’s using the lowborn for power and I hope she realizes the weight of what she is doing. The way the writers are keeping the mystery of why a dragon picks its rider is nice though. We’ve now seen it four times in the show and really they have all been wildly different going back to Aemond last season, Adam last week, and this week’s new recruits.
We’ll see how next week’s finale goes as it has been a slow season, we started hot and it really bogged down the last 3 episodes so I am hopeful the finale can, for lack of a better term, re-ignite the excitement as we head into the wait for season 3.
