Ryan Shoots First: Agatha All Along (S1 Ep6) “Familiar by Thy Side”
After some big turns this week, we get a solid episode focused on Teen and his backstory that led to him becoming Billy and coming to the realization that he is Billy.
This was a really strong episode as it filled in a lot of gaps in an interesting way. Instead of just playing out the events we watch as Teen becomes the vessel for Billy and how he put it all together. This kept us invested in the mystery even though we knew the ending and gave Joe Locke a chance to be the focus and flex his acting chops for an episode. He was able to show a lot of range essentially playing 3 different characters in this episode at various levels of realization.
This episode broke a lot of the established pacing of the show but being around the midpoint it seemed like a good time, and next week it looks like we will go back to that formula but with a new twist added to the dynamic. This came at a good time before the format got old, and right when the show could benefit from a change of status quo. The show has confidence in how it presents itself and that shows in this deliberate pacing and flow. Don’t let it get stale and give the series a refresh as we head into the final 3 episodes. Agatha does a lot right and with so little. We learned recently that it has the smallest budget of any Marvel project and that is impressive with the strong story that it is managing to tell. I look forward to these final 3 episodes and how we will wrap all this up with the road end looming and everyone’s motivations becoming more clear.
