Bullet Points: 2Eleven (2015)
Detroit just hits different. Action movies are no stranger to the Motor City, but sometimes you need to get real and raw with an action movie that doesn’t give us Hollywood’s take on Detroit but one that is straight from the streets. 2Eleven is an action movie from 2015, that was written and directed by Derek Scott, that won’t have anyone looking to make a trip to Detroit, but it will keep you entertained for 107 minutes.

- Robbery – Two eleven, aka 211, aka 2eleven is the police code for a robbery and you better believe 2Eleven features plenty of it. But even with all the robbery, murder and other crime, 2Eleven is really about a family and all the murders in Wayne County don’t hit as hard as the family drama in 2Eleven. I was pleasantly surprised that a movie featuring some cold blooded acts could make you feel.
- Two Brothers – 2Eleven is the story of two brothers, Zo (Chamar Avery) and Murda (Murda Pain). They are both small-time criminals in Detroit but they really couldn’t be much more different. Zo tries to be level headed and wants to make good for his daughter Natty, even though she won’t shut up about going to Disney World. Murda is a large personality (in a large body) and prone to doing wild shit. Murda might be more of a wild card but what do expect from someone named Murda. It is a badass name and he has it for a reason.

- How Many Licks – Zo is tired of the high risk low reward robberies and gets Murda and their other partner Tell (RIP Martell Lane) some better paying jobs and things are looking up for the crew and for the movie because we get a robbery montage. Of course when shit starts to go good you know the other shoe is going to drop. In this case it is Zo and Murda’s mother getting killed in a drive-by. Damn, why do you have to do us like that, 2Eleven?
- One Last Lick – Another sideways job that Murda attempted without Zo means that the crew will have to complete one more job before Zo is going to move to Orland with Natty… and this time it is Mexican. I know this movie doesn’t have the budget for Disney World so I know something bad is going to happen, but God damn that twist. It is tough to say if there is a happy ending or not and it all depends on who you have been rooting for throughout 2Eleven.

Detroit just hits different and 2Eleven fits right in with Detroit. It is not a feel good movie, but life in Detroit might not always be pretty. For being such a simple straight forward story with actors you might not be familiar with, 2Eleven punches well above its weight. If you are looking for a slice of street life in Detroit circa 2015 you could do much worse than 2Eleven. - Respect – I hope it was intentional that a poster for Brandy is seen behind Murda. Brandy, the uber-talented artist with an album named Two Eleven.
- Bastard Count – I lost count. Not because there were many bastards said but the amount of bitches and n-words said every other word made it hard to count.
- UCult Studios – 2Eleven comes from UCult Studios. UCult, or urban culture for those in the know.
- Favorite Scene – Murda jumping over a BBQ grill. Big man has some hops.
