Scene of the Week: Cliffhanger
Cliffhanger was released on May 28, 1993. Directed by Renny Harlin and starring Sylvester Stallone, it is no surprise that Cliffhanger is beloved among the action community and was further proof that Stallone was more than just Rocky Balboa and John Rambo.
In Cliffhanger, Stallone plays Gabe Walker. Gabe along with fellow rescue team members, Hal Tucker (Michael Rooker) and Jesse Deighan (Janine Turner), respond to a distress call in the Rocky Mountains that turns out to be a fake. The rescue team wasn’t called in to save people, but instead to use their climbing expertise to forcibly help a group of international thieves, led by Eric Qualen (John Lithgow), retrieve $100 million dollars.
In this week’s Scene of the Week we look back at the memorable fight between Gabe and one of the members of Qualen’s team, the trash talking Kynette (Leon, Pure Danger) in a brutal cave battle. The fight between Gabe and Kynette is as psychological as it is physical and ends with one of the most imPRESSive kills in action movie history!
