20 Reasons Why You Rock: Planet Terror
As Halloween draws closer and the time comes for me to stop posting articles about (mostly) horror movies, I find that I’m a bit sad. I’ve gone through quite a few top-notch flicks this month and it’s going to be tough to go back to watching Dolph Lundgren backlogs and NuImage movies I’ve never heard of. Until then, though, I’ll keep on going through this Halloween season like it’s my last.
Here is one my favorite recent-ish zombie films and just a taste of why I think Planet Terror totally fucking rocks!
#1. Awesome Machete trailer!
#2. There have been a handful of times throughout my movie watching that I have commented on the striking good looks of Rose McGowan but this credits scene is her at a whole new level. Absolutely stunning!
#3. Abby is a scientist who also collects the balls of those who have failed him in some way. Why is this the case? Who cares, it makes for some funny scenes.
#4. It doesn’t matter the year, the character, the movie; seeing Bruce Willis still manages to bring a smile to my face.
#5. Fergie looking fine as hell. They also take every possible opportunity to show her rockin’ bod.
#6. The needle gimmick from Marley Shelton’s character is great. It gives her something unique and then forces her to be completely dependent on her useless hands.
#7. Anything with Michael Biehn rules. You all know that.
#8. Michael Parks playing Sheriff Earl McGraw. Fans of Robert Rodriguez and Tarantino will remember this character from From Dusk Till Dawn and then later in the Kill Bill films.
#9. Seeing Tom Savini in a zombie movie is so comforting. The great thing about him is that his genius lies in his special effects work but he is always so memorable on screen, as well.
#10. Deputy Carlos played by Carlos Gallardo, El Mariachi himself!
#11. El Wray going wild in the hospital with the knives is an all-timer. So rad to see a guy that I never thought to be tough look so kickass.
#12. Top tier zombie eating people effects.
#13. Poor Tony. He never stood a chance.
#14. Is J.T. my favorite character? It’s hard to tell when there are so many great ones that just appear out of nowhere.
#15. Business really picks up when the groups of survivors get together. The catalyst being when Tom Savini gets ripped in quarters. It’s almost like a rite of passage that he’ll be killed in a movie like this.
#16. If your hero is shooting zombies while riding a pocket bike then you’re doing it right.
#17. When Rusty the dog got run over and threw blood all over the twins….yeah, the car the twins were riding in was in front of the truck that hit them so it couldn’t have happened. Did anyone else notice that?
#18. Tarantino being a total creep. Yeah, it fits pretty well. I’m just surprised he didn’t do some scene with the girls and their feet.
#19. Poor J.T. He finally gets his sauce right and then BANG!
#20. Cherry finally becomes what she was always meant to be. A gun-legged woman who kills in ways that defy logic. Also, she becomes a leader of the resistance and the surviving population.
