Bullet Points: Operation Delta Force 3: Clear Target
The boys of Delta are back and this time they are taking the war on drugs personal. What I love about the Operation Delta Force series is that it not only tries to confuse the audience with the similarly named The Delta Force and its sequels, but Operation Delta Force keeps the same characters but the actors are always changing. It is a great chance to watch different actors in the Nu Image stable give their take on familiar characters.
- Not The Colombian Connection – Operation Delta Force 3: Clear Target, or ODF3 for those in the know, opens with all the familiar Delta characters on a mission in Columbia that has already failed two times with 24 soldiers being killed. Capt. Skip Lang (Jim Fitzpatrick, U.S. Seals) is leading Mac (Greg Collins, Double Tap), Hutch (Bryan Genesse, Street Justice), Sparks (Gavin Hood, Traitor’s Heart), Vickers (John Simon Jones, Cold Harvest) and Lombardi (David Dukas, Witness to a Kill). Only Sparks and Vickers are played by the same actors from Operation Delta Force 2: Mayday, but no one is the same from Operation Delta Force. The opening is an awesome chance to open the movie with tons of explosions and show the kick-assedness of the team.
- Those Damn Drugs – The mission is a success with over 1.6 billion dollars worth of cocaine blown up. Except Delta doesn’t think it was a success because Lombardi got injured. That should have known that when ODF3 made a big deal to have the team wish him a happy birthday in the middle of a firefight that bad news was in his future. When Lombardi dies back in the hospital, Delta is upset that they are being used to fight a drug war that is mostly political.
- This Time It Is Personal – Umberto Salvatore (Danny Keogh, Project Shadowchaser II) is the drug kingpin who is very upset that his drugs were destroyed. Salvatore wants a new satellite used to find his drug operation destroyed, and what better way to do that than hire a hacker to take over a top secret U.S. submarine (with the classic The Hunt for Red October undercover bad guy cook on board) and threaten to use biological weapons on New York City. God I love the Operation Delta Force series. The Delta boys are called in to stop Salvatore and because of Lombardi’s death they have their own axe to grind.
- Helicopters, Trains And Submarines… Oh My – Delta must first take out Salvatore in his Colombian villa which sees them arriving by train. Of course they are betrayed by the Colombians which leads to an excellent firefight on a moving train. I’ll take Colombian betrayal all day if it leads to a train and a helicopter having a head on collision. Salvatore escapes but the hacker is captured and he gives up the sub location, but the only way to stop biological weapons is on board. Enter computer expert Ariana Decker (Darcy LaPier, aka the former Mrs. JCVD, Double Trouble) to provide her skill and give ODF3 at least one female character.
- Substantial Ending – The last third of ODF3 takes place on the sub and the explosions are reduced (until the Statue of Liberty ending) but the close quarter and hand to hand fighting more than makes up for it. The movie switches to a tense thriller as Delta tries to save New York City from the deadly biological weapons. Would you believe that the defusal of the weapons comes down to the last second? You will have to watch to find out.
Operation Delta Force 3: Clear Target is a fun action movie if you are a fan of Nu Image and action movies with a lower budget. You cannot expect realistic settings or characters, but if you can overcome that, you will be rewarded with an over-the-top story and enough explosions to keep you entertained. However, the best part of ODF3 is the camaraderie among the characters, and I would like to think the cast as well considering that many have worked together on different Nu Image films, that makes the audience feel invested right along with the team. I ask that you stay invested in the ODF3 Bullet Points a little longer and check out the Operation Delta Force 3: Clear Target Bonus Bullet Points.
- Disturbing Quotes – It is a tie between “This is a coke head’s wet dream” and “Looking up a dead horse’s rectum.”
- If You Ever… – Wanted to see Jim Fitzpatrick get peed right on the face than ODF3 is for you.
- Words To Live By – “Never trust a woman. Especially one named Ariana.”
