Ryan Shoots First: Agatha All Along (S1 Ep7) “Death’s Hand in Mine”
The end of the road is nearing as Agatha All Along heads into the home stretch. After last week’s deeper dive into just how Billy Maximoff took over the body of Teen this week, we see the fate of Jenn and Lilia after Billy casted them off the road. This was a strong episode and felt like an almost Doctor Who like episode largely built around Lilia.
Throughout the season we have seen little memory lapses and moments that were all building to this episode. “Death’s Hand in Mine” is a masterclass in writing and pacing. I will save the revelations but it was great to see Lilia’s character be the focus as she has been interesting all season with her obsessive thoughts on how Witches are depicted and trying to avoid pop culture stereotypes. I was pretty sure we would see them return as it was really abrupt to kill them off in that way but the payoff was well done and it sets up the final 2 episodes to be high stakes race to the finish. I really have no idea where they are going in the larger story other than “the end of the road”.
We also got some answers on just where Rio went and what exactly is her deal. She has been missing for a few weeks since the Billy reveal and there has been a mystery surrounding her the entire time as well. She come back in a big way and with a rather large reveal that once again raises the stakes for the final two episodes. I noted in the observations this show is like a series of Witch escape rooms but I really dig the format. It is not quite “monster of the week” but the trials all take place on the “road” of this larger story and all the players have different motivations and stories that all must be confronted to be successful. This has been an enjoyable experience following the show and it has found a nice little niche in a Marvel landscape that only featured one movie for the entire year. I look forward to seeing how they wrap up these next 2 episodes as next week is penultimate week!
