Scene of the Week: Fists of Iron
Confidence is one of the necessary ingredients one must have to be successful in this life. If you don’t think you can win, chances are good that you won’t.
But being overconfident will always come back to bite you (Right Golden State?). That is the lesson you will see young Dale Hartwell (Michael Worth) learn in this week’s Scene of the Week from the 1995 film Fists of Iron, or as it was known in Germany, Karate Tiger 8.
Let me set this scene up for those of you who have had the misfortune of not experiencing Fists of Iron for yourself… Dale Hartwell looking to avenge the death of his best friend Matt Sheldon at the hands of the best shootfighter in the land, Victor “The Destroyer” Bragg (Matthias Hues), goes to the palatial estate of the man who runs the fights, the devious and powerful Peter Gallagher (Marshall Teague) and demands a match with Bragg, obviously not learning from Matt’s mistake earlier in the film.
Gallagher tells Hartwell if he can beat a lesser opponent, he can have his match with Bragg. An overconfident Hartwell then finds himself across the ring from a Samoan badass! Pay special attention to the guy flying solo with the beard who is really loving the shootfighting action.
