Women of Action: The Three Musketeers (1993)
A recent re-watching of Disney’s 1993 version of The Three Musketeers reminded me of a couple of things that I’ve forgotten over the years; Oliver Platt is a hilarious physical comedian, Charlie Sheen had so much charisma before he went loony, Kiefer Sutherland was already badass before he became Jack Bauer, and the combination of Tim Curry and Michael Wincott may be my favorite villainous duo of all time. While all of these things alone make for a really fun film, the addition of the female form to the story took this movie over the edge for me.
Yep, that’s the form I was talking about. Rebecca De Mornay, who is best known for playing opposite Tom Cruise in Risky Business, gave those Disney folks so much sexiness that they probably considered ditching the PG rating and just going full-on NC-17. But the hotness didn’t stop there….
That adorable young lady being creeped on by Tim Curry is Gabrielle Anwar. She’s recently been a star on the USA Network’s Burn Notice but I’m assuming that her proudest moment as an actress was when Curry whispered in her ear with his weird and unsettling voice.
As the delightfully innocent Queen Anne (the one on the right), Anwar survived the Curry advances long enough for the heroic Three Musketeers and their young companion D’Artagnan to rescue the King and save the day. And now, back to De Mornay….
The seductress De Mornay dug her claws into the scrawny chest of Chris O’Donnell all the while trying to murder him and keep the Musketeers from learning of her own villainous work with the evil Cardinal Richelieu. Chicks do the darndest things.
