Scene of the Week: Number One With a Bullitt
When you think of the movie Bullitt two things immediately come to mind. #1 – Steve McQueen, the star of the movie who was the personification of cool. #2 – The car chase that many believe is the greatest car chase in cinematic history (although some fans of The French Connection might have something to say about that).
By the time Bullitt was released on October 17, 1968, Steve McQueen had already established himself as a Hollywood superstar in movies like The Great Escape, The Sand Pebbles and The Thomas Crown Affair. McQueen’s star power may have been what brought movie goers into the theater, but there’s a good chance when they were leaving the theater they were talking about a car chase that would set the bar for all future movie car chases.
