Scene of the Week: JCVD vs. Mike Tyson
Kickboxer: Retaliation, the follow up to Kickboxer: Vengeance (legitimately my favorite movie of 2016), has me absolutely giddy with anticipation. And the best news is the wait is almost over…
The sequel picks up one year after the events of Kickboxer: Vengeance. Our hero Kurt Sloan (Alain Moussi) is now married to Liu (Sara Malakul Lane) and is a professional MMA fighter climbing the ranks in hopes of championship glory. But Kurt’s past in Thailand is about to come back to haunt him and his lovely wife. The legendary Jean-Claude Van Damme also returns for the sequel reprising his role as Kurt’s trainer, Master Durand.
Kickboxer: Retaliation introduces three new characters to the franchise including another action movie legend, Christopher Lambert. Lambert, who is probably most famous for playing Connor MacLeod in the 1986 classic Highlander, plays the villainous Thomas Moore. Moore is the man who uses his power and influence to bring Kurt back to Thailand against his will so Kurt can defend his title against his monster known as Mongkut (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson of Game of Thrones fame). But the third new character may be the most intriguing of them all…
“Iron” Mike Tyson joins the cast as Briggs. The Briggs character appears to be working with Master Durand as they prepare Kurt Sloan for his biggest test yet, a fight with the monstrous Mongkut. But from the clip below, courtesy of the fine folks over at the JoBlo Movie Network, you can see that Durand and Briggs don’t always get along and that means we get to see two icons tangle in this week’s Scene of the Week…
Kickboxer: Retaliation will be in select theaters and On Demand on Friday January 26, 2018. You can visit the official Kickboxer: Retaliation website for more information and be sure to check back with us later this month for our review of Kickboxer: Retaliation!
