Coming Soon: Point Blank
I complain endlessly (just ask my wife) about the lack of modern action movies with that same buddy flair that movies like Lethal Weapon and 48 Hours had back in the day. How has it been this hard to find a pair of actors with that same dynamic? Well, it looks like my years of bitching has finally paid off because the trailer for Point Blank dropped a couple of days ago and it just might be the answer to all of my prayers.
Frank Grillo and Anthony Mackie look so badass! It’s amazing how good scenes can look when you couple cool lines with actors who can recite them convincingly. Mackie and Grillo worked together last on the set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier but I don’t remember either of them dropping F-bombs or beating the shit out of someone in a car wash, so this movie already ranks higher on my spectrum. Grillo seems to get better with age and I think that Mackie might be the next big blockbuster franchise guy (outside of the MCU) when the right movie comes along. I’m still waiting for that space odyssey film they keep talking about and I think that could be the perfect role for a guy with Mackie’s range.
Joe Lynch’s action credentials speak for themselves. Director of Knights of Badassdom, Everly, and 2017’s Mayhem, Lynch has continued to put out highly entertaining and action-packed films going as far back as 2007’s surprisingly good Wrong Turn 2: Dead End. This film is a remake of a 2010 French film of the same name but I also discovered a South Korean film titled The Target released back in 2014 based on the same story. Sounds like a future Movie Kumite post to me!
