Scene of the Week: Live and Let Die
I never get tired of the James Bond film series. I love how even though they have different actors, writers and directors there are still some hallmarks you can expect. James Bond is guaranteed to be the suavest dude in the room and always say something witty. He usually has an extensive array of gadgets used to befuddle an overly cocky megalomaniac. And while it may seem sexist today, James often needs to rescue (and bed) an attractive but helpless woman. One James Bond movie that I always go back to is Live and Let Die because it features all the characteristics I enjoy.
This week’s Scene of the Week takes a look at Live and Let Die which the movie not only contains the James Bond characteristics but they are also contained in the final action set piece. Sir Roger Moore was extra suave in his debut Bond film. Q outfitted him with a bespoke watch that came in quite handy and dig those shark gun pellets. The talented Jane Seymour plays Solitaire, who gains her independence throughout the film (but still needs Jimmy’s help at the end). However, after watching this scene there is no doubt that the one actor who blew up after his role in Live and Let Die was Yaphet Kotto.
