Bullet Points: Sniper: Assassin’s End
We are now up to the 8th movie in the Sniper franchise. Can you believe it? No one would have guessed it. However, Sniper might be one of the most underrated franchises around. Let me tell you all about the latest installment, Sniper: Assassin’s End. Or, what I like to call it, Sniper Part VIII: The Becketts Take Vancouver.
- This is a story all about: Brandon Beckett, (Chad Michael Collins) is framed for a political assassination. The only person he can trust to help him is his dad, legendary sniper and professional badass, Sgt. Thomas Beckett (Tom Berenger). Together, father and son will take on the C.I.A, a Yakuza assassin sniper known as Lady Death and a few more surprises along the way. Can the Becketts survive to make it to Part IX?
- The nicest person in Hollywood: How can you not like Chad Michael Collins? He is one of the coolest actors I’ve ever spoken with. He truly cares about his work, and he cares about the fans who watch. He’s also a gamer. You can check him out on Twitch. I had to laugh watching Chad play video games in Assassin’s End. It was art imitating life. Chad has the look of someone who is having a lot of fun while doing a job he absolutely loves. You can’t fake that. Brandon Beckett is a character Chad has made into his own. The growth of Brandon throughout the series is something to admire. Chad has the acting skills and charisma to carry a movie on his back. Assassin’s End is Chad Michael Collins at his absolute best.
- Berenger: Tom Berenger still has it. Over 70-years-young and still a badass. He is used just right in Assassin’s End. He shows up and sticks around until the end. He could’ve easily filmed a few scenes, cashed a paycheck and called it a day. Instead, he’s a true professional and a critical part of the story. There’s a scene between Tom and Chad. One of those famous father-son talks. A true bonding experience. A conversation that sets up one of the most tense finales I’ve ever witnessed in an action movie. I’m not sure what Mr. Berenger’s future is with the Sniper franchise, but I’m so thankful for his appearance in Assassin’s End.
- Lady Death: Wow! A Yakuza assassin. Someone who might be just as good as the Becketts. A lady that knows how to fight and shoot your ass from over a mile away. Readers of Bulletproof Action you will be so excited when you meet Lady Death. Sayaka Akimoto is an actress with a very bright future. You might not know her now, but you will not forget her after watching Assassin’s End. I can’t wait for you to see the Sniper Standoff between Lady Death and the Becketts. Again, the amount of tension in Assassin’s End is unreal.
- The Supporting Players: Assassin’s End has a lot of explosive action, but it isn’t nonstop. There’s a lot of investigating. A lot of story mixed into the action. Ryan Robbins is Agent Zero. He’s the badass with the beard trying to figure out exactly what is going on. He’s trying to unravel the mystery, while Lochlyn Munro as Agent John Franklin is doing his best to catch Brandon Beckett and call it a day. Robbins is a damn good actor. A face you probably will recognize from something. Munro plays his character just right. He’s the jerk of a boss. The suit who only sees it one way: Brandon must be guilty, because the evidence says so. The professionalism of the supporting cast is worth applauding.
And now, some Bonus Bullet Points for your enjoyment…
- Directed by: Kaare Andrews. He’s mostly known for horror, but I think he has a future in action directing as well.
- Missing finger: You don’t need all your fingers to be an elite sniper.
- Left hand hunting: When hunting squirrels, give them a fighting chance by using your less dominant hand.
- Stoner: If you ever wanted to see Chad Michael Collins freak out a stoner kid and then help the kid dispose of his weed pipe, then Assassin’s End is definitely a movie for you.
- Sinister Baddie: Big props to Michael Jonsson. You will meet him in Assassin’s End. His Drake Phoenix character is one mean heel.
- Rating: 4 Stars. Action done just right.
Sniper: Assassin’s End might be the 8th film of the Sniper series, but I honestly believe the fun is just starting. You can check out the fun when it hits VOD and Blu-ray on June 16th.
