10 Things You Didn’t Know About Drive Angry
Nicolas Cage has seen a career resurgence in recent years due, in part, to his acceptance of roles that are a bit “out there”. Roles that felt campy, kooky, or just plain stupid are now seen as Nic Cage type movies. Nothing is off limits and it appears to be a place where he excels as an actor.
Unhinged and willing to attempt the unexpected, Cage has earned a new lease on his action star status because of roles like his in Drive Angry. For as wild as this movie gets, it’s nowhere near as crazy as he gets in other films. For now, though, lets see if we can find 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Drive Angry…
1. Pimp my Ride: The four cars driven by Nicolas Cage in the film are a 1964 Buick Riviera, a 1969 Dodge Charger, a 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle, and a 1957 Chevrolet One-Fifty.
2. Say my name: The title comes from the line from Groundhog Day where Bill Murray says “don’t drive angry”. What a silly, yet simple place to find a title for your uber-violent action film.
3. Kiss and don’t tell: The Scene where Nic Cage kisses the waitress was all Nic. He thought of it and did it without telling her. He also came up with the line about wanting some sugar.
4. Toughness: Director Patrick Lussier and writer Todd Farmer talk endlessly about how tough Amber Heard is and how she hurt many people on set. In real life, she’s an abusive bitch who deserves to be dragged through the mud for what she did to Johnny Depp.
5. Fountain of Youth: Milton was originally gonna be 70 years old. When Cage asked how they would get around that they said “Dead men don’t age”. It was yet another role written as a Clint Eastwood vehicle.
6. A good idea: It was Nic’s idea to drink beer out of Jonah King’s skull. They think that Nic still owns the skull prop. They sent the idea over to a prop guy and he had it done up in record time.
7. Getting off to a good start: The very first bit of artwork done for the film was the sign for the Bull by the Balls Bar. Way to prioritize the important stuff.
8. Bad ideas: Nic originally wanted to shave his head and have a tattoo on his dome but he was talked out of this idea. Imagine how crazy his bald ass would’ve looked saying some of these lines.
9. Who are you: Milton continuously teases The Accountant about who he is. He asks if he is Anubis or Wuotan but the coin that he uses is an Obolon. It is a Greek coin which put in the mouth of the dead in Ancient Greece to pay for passage into Hades.
10. Inspiration: Cage’s character is named John Milton. This is a reference to the writer of Paradise Lost. David Morse’s character is named Webster. This is likely a reference to “The Devil and Daniel Webster”.
