Hall of Fame: James Cameron
Who knew that the director of Piranha 2: The Spawning would become one of the greatest living directors on planet Earth. James Cameron’s career has spanned more than four decades and shows no signs of slowing down. Let’s take a quick look at a career that has produced some of the greatest action films ever made… and also Avatar.
From 1984-1991, Cameron is credited with writing for movies such as The Terminator, Rambo: First Blood Part II, Aliens, The Abyss, and Terminator 2. If he had just stopped there and taken an extended vacation with his equally awesome director/wife Kathryn Bigelow then he would have went down as one of the most talented writers in action cinema history. Instead of doing that, though, he directed four of those movies and quickly became one of the most sought after and baller-ist of all filmmakers.
Sometime after Terminator 2 but before he made a bazillion dollars with Titanic, Cameron and his good buddy Arnold got back together and made a “little spy film” (budget of $115 million) called True Lies. It’s one of those movies where every actor on screen looks good. They all seem to have cool lines, fun scenes, and one amazing thong that gets wedged right up Jamie Lee Curtis’ crack. It’s an epic movie that reminded everyone how talented Cameron was and just how great of an action star Schwarzenegger was.
Oh yeah, he also made Avatar! Remember that one?
Before James Cameron finally decides to become a sea person and live in the Great Barrier Reef or something, let’s enjoy these last years of his dryland life and whatever he dreams up for these Avatar films. His vision for film is something to behold and he’s finally where he belongs; in the Bulletproof Action Hall of Fame!
