Bullet Points: Breach (2020)
There was a ton of positive energy running through the internet when the trailer for Breach came out. A lot got excited. However, we must remember Bruce Willis sometimes likes to take it easy in the films he makes. Does he take the same route in Breach? Let’s find out!
- The Plot: Bruce Willis plays a janitor on a spaceship. The ship is flying to some other land because Earth has gone to Hell. The voyage is a long one, so the majority of the people on the ship are in some form of hyper-sleep. The only people awake are a few crew members. You have the cleaning crew, a couple of doctors, a repairman or two and some security. I’m guessing you also have someone who can fly the ship? However, we also get some uninvited guests which turn the ship upside down. Watching Breach might bring you back to Alien or John Carpenter’s The Thing. How can this possibly be a bad thing?
- Bruce in Action: I know you’re dying to know: How lazy is Bruce? He has the chance to sit in a chair. He is good at ordering others to do his cleaning work. He likes to get drunk and cuss at people. He also gets into a fistfight. I think he walks at a brisk pace once or twice, and he likes barbecue. Bruce Willis is not the problem in Breach. He spends a lot of time on screen. He isn’t the main plot focal point, but he has a damn good almost lead / supporting role.
- The Lead: Cody Kearsley is the lead. He is a fella most known for his role as Moose on Riverdale. He is the other janitor on the ship. He snuck on the ship so he can be with the mother of his unborn child. The only problem is she’s the Captain’s Daughter! The Captain is Thomas Jane. If you’re a fan of Mr. Jane you might be disappointed. His role is an extended cameo. Cody’s character Noah is okay, but he’s not a big action star nor does he command the screen. His subplot with his girlfriend doesn’t get a lot of attention either. Mainly, because she spends most of her time in Space Sleep.
- Overall Verdict: Breach isn’t a bad film. I believe there will be a mostly positive / neutral response. The action does remind you of Alien or The Thing on a spaceship. Some familiar faces are underused, especially Johnny Messner and Thomas Jane. When the action is on, Breach cranks it up. If you don’t like the film, don’t blame Bruce. If I was a teacher, Breach would pass my class, but in no way would Breach graduate with honors.
Bonus Bullet Points…
- Die Hard: Remember the Die Hard commercial for the Die Hard battery? We all got excited for the possibility of another Die Hard. While we might not see another Die Hard film, it is interesting to point out the director of Breach is also the director of the commercial. I guess John Suits has the potential to be the real deal in action movie or commercial directing.
- Coming Soon: Saban Films will be releasing Breach in theaters, on demand and on digital on Friday December 18, 2020.
- Movie Score: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Just finished watching this. Not bad. This was a weird one, but mildly entertaining. Thomas Jane made Bruce Willis look like he was actually trying in this one. One of the first victims (Johann Urb) played that weird version of Leon Kennedy in the Resident Evil movies. Lol. Kind of wish they had saved the money on Thomas Jane and beefed up the production for that ending I saw coming a mile away. Looked like a scare prank for YouTube. Shout out to our boy Johnny Messner.
Poor Johnny! He got the short end of the stick on this one,
