Bullet Points: All My Friends Are Dead
My Netflix journey across the globe continues with All My Friends Are Dead. This time, I am traveling to Poland. In my earlier review of Spain’s Below Zero, I mentioned how subtitled movies might get lost in the Netflix shuffle. I believe I misspoke, because Below Zero is the 2nd most watched program on Netflix at the time of this review. Only Bridgestone has it beat. Let’s see if All My Friends Are Dead will be another global hit…
- The Plot: The film opens up on New Year’s Day. Two cops are investigating a house party gone to hell and back. The rest of the film focuses on the wild New Year’s Eve party that led to a shit ton of death and destruction. All My Friends Are Dead is a very dark comedy with brutal and sudden violence sprinkled into the mix. It is the definition of an ensemble cast. There isn’t really a lead character. Instead, it focuses on a lot of characters at the party. Also, since this is a film from Poland, the actors are unfamiliar to me. This is an advantage, because I had to clue who would live or die.
- The Darkness: Jesus speaks to a French fella as he’s having a threesome with two hot sisters. A hot babe is shot in the middle of one of her breast implants. Someone chokes on their own vomit because they couldn’t reach their EpiPen in time. A Christmas tree commits murder. These are just some of the examples of the dark humor in All My Friends Are Dead. The humor is definitely not for everyone. I however, laughed a lot. And perhaps, laughed at scenes I probably should be ashamed of myself for laughing at.
- Kick Start My Heart: When you hear Mötley Crüe, get ready for the chaos. Nothing is held back in the insane finale. It is hilariously wicked. I really enjoyed the music in the film. It felt like party music. Watching, you would think this is just some random teen party. People deal with new love and heartbreak. Friends become enemies. People get drunk, do drugs and play guitar. If it wasn’t for the opening, the audience would be in complete shock as the film unravels.
- Final Words: All My Friends Are Dead is a worthy watch. I can’t see this getting an English language remake. I don’t think I would want to see it, because I know they would take all the “good” parts out. All My Friends Are Dead is a shockingly hilarious film. Watch at your own risk. 3.5 stars!
