Bullet Points: Wrong Place, Wrong Time
It has been some time since I last reviewed a film from Uncork’d Entertainment. I decided to change that and give Wrong Place, Wrong Time a chance. Let us see if this is something I will regret.
- The Legal Stuff: Uncork’d Entertainment will release Wrong Place, Wrong Time on DVD and On Demand on May 4th, 2021. It is directed by Justin Price and it stars Franziska Schissler, Bianca Stein and a lot of other people you probably have never heard of.
- The Plot: A team of mercenaries plot to steal an ass load of money from the mob. The shit hits the fan, and they find themselves trapped in a house that holds many deadly secrets. Will anyone make it out alive to spend all that money?
- Strike 1: I am one that always screams for practical gun effects and practical blood and gore. I cringe at CG added gun muzzles and other CG laziness. If the only aspect impacting my score of this film was practical effects, Wrong Place, Wrong Time would earn an A. There is an opening shootout which features practical gun usage. I enjoyed seeing the shell casing hit the ground in the chaotic opening. Unfortunately, just because your actors received gun handling training, does not mean your shootout will be exciting. The scene had potential, but it fell out on its ass like an overweight stripper on a skinny pole. It makes me sad, because the director used all the ingredients I would want to see in an action scene. At the end of the day, the execution destroyed what could have been something worth talking more about.
- Strike 2: I am a huge fan of the “survive the night” action / horror genre. Wrong Place, Wrong Time is a film in this genre, but the plot jumps way over the place like a hyperactive squirrel on cocaine. Critical plot points are either ignored or skipped over. There are scenes the movie desperately needed to help you understand the plot, but they were for some reason left out of the film. The plot / story also falls victim to the 20 minutes of story in a film that runs for over 80 minutes concept. This is a common theme in a lot of movies I have screened. Too much dead space weight between exciting plot-driven scenes.
- Strike 3: As I watched, I tried like hell to figure out what in the holy hell is going on? I understand if you want to make your baddies some type of supernatural ghoul, but what are our “heroes” fighting? Are they children of the devil, vampires, zombies or something in between? I could not figure this hot mess out. It also does not help when your “heroes” are not likable. It is even worse when the “bad guys” are unlikable as well. Who do I cheer for? I guess I cheer for the film to end.
- You Are Out: The movie poster for Wrong Place, Wrong Time looks cool. The film features both practical gunplay and gore, but the feature is a total snooze fest of boredom. If I did not need a review for this day, I would not have wasted my time writing this review. Wrong Place, Wrong Time is the wrong movie for me.
