Ryan Shoots First: Loki (S1 Ep4) “The Nexus Event”

After being stranded on Lamentis at the end of the planet, Loki and Silvy will have to use all their wits and mischief to get back on track. 

This week kicks off with a flashback to Asgard with the TVA showing up and taking a small child that they claim is a variant. The arresting agent appears to be Ravonna before she had made her way up the ranks. Young Silvy manages to wrestle her device away from her and escape. We then cut to current “time” with Ravonna going in to meet with the Time Keepers. As they are slowly revealed the opening title credits come up. 

Post meeting Ravonna is meeting with Mobius and is visibly shaken. Mobius is trying to get access to the TVA agent who was abducted by Silvy. Ravonna tells him she is dead and blames it on Silvy’s enchantment. Back on Lamentis as fire rains down Loki and Silvy are reflecting, Silvy tells Loki chaos is the universe trying to break free from the TVA. She tells him she has grown up at the end of 1000 worlds since she has been running since she was a child. Silvy asks Loki if what makes a Loki a Loki is they are destined to lose. He tells her no they are destined to survive. Loki takes her by the hand and this causes a disturbance so large the TVA shows up and takes them in. Mobius creates a red portal to send Loki in and with his last words to Mobius he tells him the TVA has been lying to him but Mobius sends him in anyway. It appears he is back on Asgard when Lady Sif shows up angry with an apparent prank Loki played on her. Loki appears to be in a prison of his bad memories. He is forced to live this moment over and over again. 

Back at the TVA Mobius checks in on Ravonna hoping to interview Silvy but she will not allow it. They are trying to find out why the spike happened when the two touched. As he is leaving B-15 asks him if Loki told him anything. Mobius tells her about his revelation about the TVA and she seems concerned. Back in his cell Loki confesses to Sif he craves attention and is a narcissist. Sif reaches out a hand and helps him up, tells him he is alone and always will be but does not knock him out this time. Mobius comes in and asks him if he is ready to talk. Mobius asks him what it was the TVA is lying about but Loki wants his freedom for the info. The two go back and forth until Mobius threatens to send Loki back in with Sif until Loki confesses that he is the mastermind and the two have been working together this whole time. Mobius tells Loki that Silvy was eliminated by B-15. Mobius starts laughing as he can see Loki is affected by the news and realizes that size of a Nexus event could only be from two similar variants having romantic feelings for eachother. He then derides Loki for being such a narcissist he fell for himself. After an argument Loki reveals that all the workers were variants and were not created by the TVA. Mobius says nice try but for a minute seems to take that in. B-15 heads in to talk to Silvy and opens a tube and tells her to come with her. 

In Ravonna’s office she has Mobius sign some paperwork to close the case and he is lingering on Loki’s words and he takes a longer look at Ravonna’s pen. Mobius asks why he wasn’t allowed to interrogate Silvy she brushes it off and tells him the Time Keepers want to personally watch Silvy and Loki’s pruning. Mobius goes back to questions about C-20’s death. Ravonna tells Mobius he has been spending too much time with Lokis. When she isn’t looking he swaps devices with her and heads out. Back with B-15 and Silvy she asks her what those memories were she saw when they touched and Silvy tells her the truth and shows her her past life before the TVA. She asks Silvy what now? On Ravonna’s device he finds a debriefing video of C-20 telling them she was a variant and that she had a past life. Mobius comes back to Loki now that he knows the truth and tells him their nexus event moment could bring the whole TVA down. As they come back through Ravonna and troops are waiting, as Mobius tells her he wishes he could go back to whatever life he had before the TVA she has him Pruned to Loki’s shock as he is dragged to the Time Keepers. Ravonna goes to check on Silvy and realizes B-15 had met with her so she also puts out an alert for B-15. Ravonna meets SIlvy and Loki at the Elevator to take them up to the Time Keepers. In the elevator Silvy asks Ravonna what was her nexus event and Ravonna tells her she doesn’t remember in a snarky way. As the two step forward to encounter the Time Keepers, after a back and forth Ravonna attempts to subdue Silvy but is unable as B-15 steps into the room and frees them from their collars. As the fight goes on Silvy manages to behead one of the Time Keepers just to learn that they are actually machines. As Silvy is defeated Loki tells her it will all be ok as he is pruned from behind by Ravonna. Silvy manages to beat Ravonna and tells her to tell her everything as the credits roll. There is a post credit scene of Loki waking up and asking if this is hell and if he is dead. A voice offscreen says not yet but he will be unless you come with us, to reveal three different Loki Variants as the episode ends.  

WOW what an episode, at least three moments that could have been the cliffhanger of it’s own episode all in one. Where the show goes from here I have no idea but next Wednesday is way too far away. 

Observations

• And you thought getting called into your office was bad… at least you didn’t “ruin all of time” screw up. 
• Hmmm, it seems convenient that the agent just died…
• Growing up in the end of 1000 worlds is super bleak but also pretty badass. 
• I love how after everything Loki is upset he doesn’t have equal security. 
• Hey it’s Sif! They really kept that one under wraps. I don’t know how Marvel does it. 
• Kree, titans, vampires…. Do your thing Marvel fandom.
• Hard to imagine a worse memory to be stuck in than repeatedly getting kicked in the balls. 
• Soooo I guess Mobius isn’t one of those guys big into “Self love”… unless it’s on a jetski. 
• The Pen!! That’s the clue that she had a former life. 
• I mean in a roundabout way they will save the universe with the power of love…
• Loki’s face after Mobius tells him he can be whoever he wants even someone good is so sweet. 
• Nooooooo Damn you Dave Filoni!!! Wait? Still Damn you Dave!!
• Seriously I have been robbed of seeing Owen Wilson on a jetski and that is not ok. 
• I’ve almost called the Time Keepers Time Lords like 20 times… seeing their costumes I was not far off. 
• WOAH cue the “that escalated quickly” meme
• I don’t know how but this is Tony’s fault isn’t it…
• WHAT IS GOING ON someone please take those sticks!!
• So is the alligator a Loki?? This freaking show.
