Ryan Shoots First: The Bad Batch (S1 Ep13) “Infested”
Following a well received episode we start this week with the Batch arriving back home from another mission. As they head into Cids there appears to be a lot of guards in the area. No one really recognizes the guards and they head into Cid’s they discover she has been moved off her turf and is out of the picture and this place belongs to a new guy who offers them work. Hunter says he will think about it and the crew leaves. After leaving Hunter says they are getting off planet and Omega is concerned with the fate of Cid. Tech advises most likely she is no longer in a galaxy far far away. Omega says they have to do something before they are interrupted by Cid herself who is on their ship and happy to see at least one of them cares.
On the ship she tells him this new guys name is Roland and he is looking to make a name for himself by joining up with the infamous Pykes. Cid’s plan is to steal Roland’s supply so his big deal with the Pykes falls through. She tells them they have to stay very quiet as the tunnels under the city are infested. After a close call with Wreckers flashlight the team makes their way into Cid’s office. Their distraction somewhat fails and Rolands men are able to catch the crew fleeing into the tunnels. However when they give chase they fire up the cart’s engines. This awakens the Hive that begins swarming anything that moves. The Batch are able to escape but in the process lose the spice they had stolen. Roland in turn has to answer to the Pykes who do not take well to his excuses or threats.
The Pykes eventually find the Batch and Cid and want to know where their spice is. The Pykes threaten to hold on to Omega until they return with it and the Dads aren’t having it till Cid convinces them otherwise. As Wrecker and Cid repel down to retrieve the crates, Omega and Roland get to have a good chat. Back at the spice another accident stirs up the hive as Wrecker and Cid are on their way up but Tech develops a device that blasts the hive with light allowing the two to escape. As the crew returns the spice Omega pleads for Rolands life with the Pykes and they elect to only chop off one of his horns with a warning to never cross them again. As the episode ends Hunter asks Omega why she would stick up for him and she tells him maybe he isn’t all bad after their time together.
I enjoy the show very much but this episode isn’t going to do much for the crowd that keep waiting for it to pick up. 3 episodes to go!
Observations
- Hey look a new character! Now everyone that said the show relies on cameos can complain that they just couldn’t get into this guy and he was only created to sell toys and they could have used that spot to feature someone else….am I tracking right?
- I am not looking forward to the hand pump driven Bad Batch ride at Galaxy’s Edge.
- It seems like if you could invent blaster proof locks you could really make a name for yourself in the galaxy.
- Dang Pikes don’t play, lets get them a Sopranos style spin off.
- The whole gang pulling their guns on cue when they threaten to take Omega was so awesome. One of my favorite moments of the show. They are all like “to hell you are”
- I dub thee Terminix Tech.
- Well now that Roland’s horn is cut some are thinking he is Visago from Rebels soo I may have lied about that new character thing.
- Man Echo and the bunch are bolting to get some free beer.
