Bullet Points: Dangerous (2021)
Lionsgate presents Dangerous, releasing in Theaters and On Demand on November 5, 2021.
- The Plot: A “reformed” psychopath Dylan “D” Forrester (Scott Eastwood) gets more than he bargains for when he attends his recently deceased brother’s wake. Dangerous also stars Mel Gibson, Kevin Durand, Famke Janssen and Tyrese Gibson. Dangerous is directed by David Hacki (Daughter of the Wolf, Into the Grizzly Maze, Life on the Line and Saw V)
- Dirty Scott: Scott Eastwood is becoming his own man. He will forever be in Clint’s shadow, but he does have acting chops. Scott is just right as D. His spin as a psychopath trying to act “normal” isn’t on Dexter’s level, but it is a good effort. I am not sure if the film is trying to be funny, but it has some moments I couldn’t help but laugh at. I would like to see more of Scott in roles like D.
- Mel: Mel Gibson has a limited role in Dangerous, but his casting is just right. Mel is Scott’s psychiatrist. All of his scenes are phone calls with Scott’s D. They are debating if D should channel his inner self and unleash the violence. The most hilarious part is Mel has no clue the degree of trouble D is in. I guess this is due to D’s blank personality and D being a psychopath.
- Die Hard Concept: Dangerous could be labeled as “Die Hard at a wake set in a remote island”. Kevin Durand ‘s Cole and his goons crash the wake searching for something worth a lot of money. It will all add up as you watch. It should be noted Famke Janssen plays an FBI Agent and Tyrese Gibson is the local sheriff of the remote island.
- The Action: Dangerous is action packed. The action is well filmed. The weapon usage and gunplay appear professionally made. David Hacki has more action hits than misses. Most of the baddies are super generic, but Kevin Durand looks the part of the main bad guy, and he gives a great effort. You will probably be satisfied with the faces you recognize, but you can tell the majority of the acting effort comes from the main players. There is a hilarious scene with Brendan Fletcher. I can’t say too much, but if acting awards were given for facial expressions, Brendan would be an award winner.
- Final Thoughts: Dangerous looks the part of a DTV action film, but that’s not a bad thing. Scott Eastwood does his thing, and Dangerous should be on your radar if you enjoy Die Hard clones. Dangerous checks off a lot of boxes I look for and that’s about all I can ask.
