Scene of the Week: The November Man
The November Man seems to me to be a 2014 action movie that many people have overlooked and I think it might have to be because of the title. While those familiar with author Bill Granger’s The November Man series of books might disagree, I find the title to be uninspiring, especially because I saw Kevin Kline in 1989’s The January Man first. I am here to tell you not to sleep on The November Man. It is not a life changing action movie, but Pierce Brosnan (Goldeneye) as retired CIA agent Peter Devereaux getting pulled back into the business on a very personal mission is entertaining. Olga Kurylenko has quietly amassed quite the action filmography, and is that the dad from Life Goes On that I see? You better believe The November Man has Bill Smitrovich.
This week’s Scene of the Week sees Devereaux attempting to rescue Russian aide Natalia Ulanova in an exciting chase through Moscow. We later learn that Devereaux and Ulanova had a romantic history, a fact that really hits us after we see what the CIA hitman (and former protégé to Peter Devereaux) David Mason does to Ulanova.
