Bullet Points: Bring Him Back Dead
Gary Daniels was one of many martial artists turned action movie stars you could find on video store shelves during the Golden Age of Action. But while many of his contemporaries came and went, Gary Daniels is still going strong.
Gary’s latest film, the Mark Savage directed Bring Him Back Dead, will be released on DVD and Digital on August 2nd courtesy of Uncork’d Entertainment….
- Heist Gone Wrong: The movie starts off with a daring daylight robbery of a jewelry store by a group of thieves wearing sacks over their heads. They have been hired by Trent (Louis Mandylor, Champions) to steal a shipment of wildly expensive diamonds. But things don’t go as planned when the hot head of the group, Killian (Ryan M. Shaw) ends up shooting one of the employees which leads to another one of the thieves, Geoff (LeJon Woods), being shot by a security guard and the bloodshed continues before the group of thieves grab what they came for and head to their getaway vehicle. A disgusted wheel man, Alex (Gary Daniels, Recoil), pissed that innocent people were killed, drives them to the remote cabin where they’ll deliver the diamonds to Trent and get their cut. Or so they think…
- Plans Change: Geoff is practically at death’s door when they arrive at the cabin. They get Geoff inside where Lisa (Katie Keene), another of Trent’s associates, will do her best to patch up Geoff. At this point Alex is ready to kick some ass, so he asks Killian to step outside and things get physical between the two before Trent shows up on horseback and breaks things up… everyone goes inside and Trent breaks the news he will not be able to give everyone their cut until the buyer shows up in a few hours, so for now he wants their weapons, the car keys and he wants everyone to chill. But to no surprise the rest of the movie is not just a bunch of professional thieves sitting around a cabin and waiting… Alex ends up turning on his fellow thieves, spiking their drinks and when they wake up… Alex, the diamonds, Lisa and Trent’s horse are all gone!
- Here We Go: Now we’ve got ourselves a full blown action movie… Alex is on the run with his now former partners in crime, Killian, Hayden (Chris Torem) and Zarina (Zhuzha Akova), after him with orders from Trent to BRING HIM BACK DEAD! But just when I thought the rest of the story was going to be straight forward, the movie took a number of twists and turns, including Lisa’s past with Trent and Alex’s motivation for doing what he is doing revealed, plus a few surprises thrown in for good measure.
The more things change, the more they stay the same… Gary Daniels is no longer playing the clean cut, fresh faced good guy roles that many of us first saw him in, but even in this new chapter of his acting career, Gary proves he can still go in fight scenes and action sequences thanks in great part to the the tremendous physical condition he keeps himself in.
Bring Him Back Dead may well be my favorite Gary Daniels movie released in the past decade (no disrespect to I Am Vengeance). Bring Him Back Dead takes a simple story, executes it well and embellishes it with surprises up until the very end.
And we’ve nearly reached the very end of this review, which means it is time for some Bonus Bullet Points…
- Familiar Face: Daniel Baldwin (L.A. Takedown) has a small role as the guitar playing Boothe. Boothe is another interested party where the diamonds are concerned… but whose side is he on?
- One Question: Who put more ketchup on their french fries? Geoff in Bring Him Back Dead or Brigitte Nielsen’s Ingrid in Cobra?
- If You Ever: …wanted to see Louis Mandylor successfully crack a safe, then Bring Him Back Dead is the movie for you.
