Damsels: Maria Conchita Alonso
Maria Conchita Alonso, which is a name that I can’t say without my stereotypical Latino accent, is one of the first names that come to mind when I think of the beauties of the 1980’s. Her resume of films is not only impressive for the amount of awesome action movies that she made, but her list of on screen love interests is a who’s who of 80’s action stars. I dare you to try to make a list of the hottest and most seductive ladies in the action genre and leave MCA off of it. I know full well that I’ll never forget her.
The beautiful Amber Mendez (Alonso) had the unfortunate luck to move into the former apartment of the fugitive Ben Richards (Arnold) brother. While Richards is terrible at holding a rifle properly or even carrying the thing with the slightest knowledge of muzzle awareness, he’s damn good at snatching up the beautiful Mendez and holding her hostage just long enough to get them both deep into trouble. The America of 2017 then forces them both into a gladiatorial game show where gore and eye gouging has replaced trips to Bermuda and furniture sets. The screeching Maria Conchita Alonso expertly plays the role of damsel in distress for the Austrian Oak as he dismembers the hunters one by one all the while uttering some of the greatest 80’s one liners ever heard. I would take one Maria over 50 of the halfwits of today’s films. Whether it was McBain, Predator 2, The Running Man, or Extreme Prejudice, Alonso finds herself on the list of the best leading ladies of all time.
