The Six Shooter: JCVD’s Leading Ladies

Welcome the #BVDWE edition of The Six Shooter, I’m Aaron Williams!

There are a ton of thing about JCVD flicks I could have done this Six Shooter on… Fight scenes, lines, best splits, etc. But with the direction of a lead writer here on Bulletproof Action I was encouraged to think outside the box. So this edition is all about the leading ladies and love interests in JCVD’s filmography. We’re gonna talk about some of the ladies that stole the heart of “The Muscles from Brussels”. Let’s do this…

6. Cynthia (Lionheart– 1990)
Maybe it was the power that Cynthia had that pulled Lyon toward her or maybe it was the situation he found himself in. I’m not sure, but that is all irrelevant in reality. Let’s face it, Cynthia was a bad egg that obviously just used Lyon for his “skills”. The Cynthia and Lyon relationship was a classic case of a guy falling for the wrong girl so I’m sure we’re all glad it didn’t work out between them and Lyon saw Cynthia for what she truly was.

5. Janice Kent (Bloodsport– 1988)
Although it’s very safe to say that Bloodsport is one of my favorite martial arts films of all time I am always happy to see it end. Watching Frank get on the plane headed back to the United States and Janice NOT tagging along is a thing of beauty. Now I know there is a real Frank Dux out there somewhere. But that guy and the guy JCVD played are two different dudes in my mind. And in my  mind JCVD’s fictional Frank Dux found a wife he could trust and lived happily ever after and didn’t find himself with a user like reporter Janice Kent who would do anything and use anybody for a story.

4. Clydie Anderson (Nowhere To Run– 1993)
Clydie Anderson is a widowed single mother of two fighting to keep her home, a home she is being pressured to sell to a wealthy property developer. Clydie is not at all weak, she’s a fighter so it’s easy to see why Sam fell for her like he did. But I’m a firm believer that Mookie and Bree had a lot to do with his decisions. I’d like to believe Sam served his time and went back to be with Clydie and the kids and they lived their life free of crooked cops and dirty property developers.

3. Natasha “Nat” Binder (Hard Target– 1993)
I have to admit that the reason that Nat is not only on this list and but this high on it, is because I am a fan of Yancy Butler. Butler’s character, Natasha is the leading lady in Hard Target, although not really a love interest for JCVD as is usually the case. Nat is a determined young lady that wanted nothing more thand to find out what happenedto her dad. She gets some shots in at the end but it doesn’t seem like there is a romantic connection between Chance and Nat. However Hard Target is a good film that is a bright light on the cinematic career of JCVD. So I’ll just give a thumbs up to Yancy Butler for her leading lady swag.

2. Mylee (Kickboxer– 1989)
I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Mylee. Mylee goes on a rough journey in Kickboxer, but in spite of all the things she went through she found ways to remain strong and remain an elegant and beautiful lady. I truly believe Kurt Sloane could not have overcome Tong Po without the help of Mylee. Without her, Kurt would have never found Uncle Xian, he would have never known how cool of a chant “Nok Su Kow” was and how could we forget the moment Mylee cut the ropes and helped Kurt get the edge he needed in his climatic showdown with Tong Po. The number 2 shot was easy to give you Mylee!

And the final shot…

1. Melissa Walker (Timecop– 1994)
After consulting with The Brain on this one and viewing Timecop again this was an easy choice. The romance between Max and Melissa, is in my view, JCVD’s greatest love story. Max Walker was a broken man with a fake smile. He focused on his work to avoid the constant reminder that the love of his life was gone. I kinda think that as a man that could travel though time Max always wanted to try and break the rules to get her back, but Max did not abuse his power like the evil Senator McComb. Thankfully when an opportunity arose and Max was able to right the wrong, we as the audience got to witness it. The final scene in Timecop is truly a feel good moment.

There you have it, my JCVD Leading Ladies edition of The Six Shooter. Now I know there are a lot more JCVD leading ladies to choose from, but I had to narrow it down to six. Agree? Disagree?
