Ryan Shoots First: House of the Dragon (S1 Ep7) “Driftmark”
Welcome to Episode 7 of Everyone Hates Everyone! This week of House of the Dragon has all the main players making some heavy moves. After last week saw the powder keg lit ,this week it blows…
The show continues to be a masterclass in what’s unspoken. Starting with the funeral of Layna the scene is one group followed by the other with unresolve drama and awkward looks and avoidance of conversations. But the big moment this week is both Alicent and Rhanyra taking off their masks, forgoing attempts to make things work and drawing the battle lines right down the middle. Both Emma D’arcy and Olivia Cooke play their parts masterfully, the combination of duty, place but also ambition and protection of their children all clash both internally and outwardly against one another. There is clarity found on both ends as it becomes clear to each what course they need to take and what must be done.
In the middle of all of this was a really great scene with Vaygar being claimed by his new rider. Seeing that moment was great and that big chonky boi flying around was some of the best moments in the episode. We’ve heard how wise the dragons are and how that bond is so meaningful so seeing it happen was cool no matter how “How to Train Your Dragon” it was.
There is also the first real rift we see between Corlys and Rhaenys as they have a great scene in their hall about blood vs names and which is more important, the actual parentage of their “grand children” or the last name they carry. A common theme we have seen in Westeros with multiple houses having bastards in them, but to see the approach a woman of the house has compared to the male leader is interesting to see discussed.
Next week we have yet another time jump allowing all the kids to be a little older and take us into the next phase of the battle of the blacks and greens.
Observations
- Oh that shot with all the dragons was baller
- There is stank eye and then there is Alicent
- Call me crazy but Vis is looking a little better?
- What was with the weird like pinhole shot through a telescope?
- This whole funeral is just a bunch of people in a small space avoiding the others
- To bed? It’s like what 6:30?
- The fireplace scene was great, the fundamental difference of a mother who only wants her children to succeed and a father who only wants his name to succeed.
- For some reason knowing Rhanrya and Lanor tried to have kids makes it all a LITTLE better.
- Daemon’s face when she said she found pleasure elsewhere.
- Who built the Driftmark beach sex hut?
- Kids got balls, pulling a Hiccup on old Vaygar.
- I don’t hate the idea seems like an ok kid given the toxic environment he’s been brought up in.
- I love the mythology behind the dragons, that they are actually super wise and connected to those with dragons blood.
- Loved this scene and the music of the main theme and Danny’s theme.
- Alicent took an eye for an eye very literally.
- “This should be your house words” Has to be the best diss in Westeros
- Haha I mean we’ve had family vacations go this way right?
- You have to be REAL careful when you talk to this guy
- Plays are being made man. Wow!
- Guys your kids are right there
