The Gods 2: The Darkside is Now Streaming!
The blood feud that began in The Gods carries on in The Gods 2: The Dark Side, the new film directed by and starring Mykel Shannon Jenkins (The Paper Tigers, Undisputed III: Redemption) is now streaming and in select theaters this week.
Mikey James (Jenkins) has been in hiding after losing the love of his life, and her brother/his rival Anthony Fasano holds Mikey responsible for his sister’s death, as well as their father’s. Forced out of hiding to clear their old debts, Mikey and the rest of the James family must navigate their way through a world of money, murder, and betrayal while trying to stay one step ahead of the vengeful Fasano and his crew.
Although I had not seen The Gods prior to viewing the sequel, the pieces of the story that are essential to following along are provided early on in both flashback and conversation. Sitcom lovers may be pleasantly surprised to see Ernest Thomas of What’s Happening!! fame portraying the OG Olympus, who tries to guide Mikey and his crew through troubled waters and help them put their hustling ways behind them.
Despite his starring roles in martial arts films, Jenkins does not put those skills on display in The Gods 2. Few punches are thrown, but there is plenty of gunplay, and by the end of the film many of the main characters end up on the wrong side of the bloodshed. The Gods 2: The Dark Side shows the dark side of the street life, and how hard it is to outrun your past.
